Teen’s Key Hong Kong is pleased to announce changes to our governance structure as follows, Ms. Megan Yik has been appointed as our next Executive Director with effect from 1st Jan 2024, Dr. LAI Yuen Shan, Ruby has been appointed as Chairperson, Ms. LAI Chiu Yan, Vivian as Treasurer, Ms. CHUNG Sze Wan, Dr. KWOK Kan, Diana and Ms. LI Yan Yi as members of our new Board of Directors beginning in January 2024.

“I am honored to step into the role of the Executive Director of Teen’s Key Hong Kong, continue our work to create a safe and non-judgmental space, and empower the young women and girls most in need in Hong Kong,” says Megan. “Working with our passionate and visionary Board of Directors, operational team, donors, volunteers, and community, I am committed to continuing our journey to promote and create a young women-friendly community, empower more young women and unlock their new beginnings.” 

 

Megan has 10 years of frontline and leadership experience at Teen’s Key Hong Kong, including in her most recent role as the Head of Services, as well as serving as Interim Executive Director during Bowie’s maternity leave in 2023. Over the past 10 years, Megan has been building the structure of Teen’s Key operation team, outreach services and the girls’ center case management system.  

Teen’s Key’s Board of Directors unanimously appointed Megan as the organization’s next Executive Director. “Megan is a compassionate leader with extensive experience in social services, as well as a proven track record of driving organizational innovation and visionary leadership in the non-profit sector. Her profound knowledge of social welfare and women’s issues is an asset in advancing women empowerment and promoting gender equality in Hong Kong.” says Dr. Ruby Lai, Chairperson of Teen’s Key’s Board of Directors. “Megan’s extensive network of cross-sector partners will facilitate collaborations that benefit the community on local and international levels. We have full confidence that, under Megan’s guidance, Teen’s Key will soar to new heights.”

 

Teen’s Key Founder Bowie LAM will transition out of her role as Executive Director, working with Megan as Strategic Advisor to ensure a smooth transition to the new leadership. “We are grateful to Bowie for her leadership over the past 12 years, which has left Teen’ s Key a solidly grounded organization.” says Dr. Ruby Lai. Teen’s Key has grown tremendously under Bowie’s leadership, including significant growth in organizational services and revenue. “I am deeply grateful for the past 12 years’ journey with Teen’s Key partners, supporters, staff, and Board of Directors for all we had achieved together,” says Bowie LAM. “Teen’s Key’s work centers young women and girls, making the invisible visible. Although the work we are doing is more critical now than ever before, I believe that the organization has the talent and power to continue to make an impact towards our vision of a world where all young women and girls can fully achieve their potential. Teen’s Key is my family, I will support the organization whenever and whatever they need me.”

 

Board of Directors

Dr. Ruby LAI, Chairperson – An Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Sociology and Social Policy at Lingnan University, with a broad research focus that includes immigrant families, unmarried pregnant young women, sex workers, sexual and reproductive health services and policies, and ethnic minorities.

Vivian LAI, Treasurer – Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, and engaging in service development and strategic planning for Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong. She is an HKJC Scholar and the founder of Momenday, with rich experience in social enterprise and innovation, and sustainable development education.

CHUNG Sze Wan, Member – A registered social worker and certified sex therapist. She is also the founder of online sexuality education platform “Miss WoW” and FLUID HK, a community-based sex/gender education non-profit organization, with over 10 years of experience in youth service.

Dr. Diana KWOK, Member – An Associate Professor of the Dept. of Special Education and Counselling at EdUHK. She is also a social worker, counsellor, approved counseling supervisor, expressive arts therapist, and sex therapist. She holds roles as an expert member in various organizations.

 

Teen’s Key is dedicated to a leadership structure that is aligned with the organization’s vision, mission, and values, and anticipates the leadership transition will enable the organization to strengthen and expand its work supporting young women and girls in Hong Kong .
