Embracing Diversity: Supporting LGBTQ+ Youth in Schools

We are delighted to have been invited as one of the panelists at the Hong Kong International LGBTQ+ Affirmative Practices Conference 2025, co-organized by the Society of True Light and the CUHK Department of Social Work. During the conference, we had the opportunity to share our frontline experiences in addressing the challenges of bullying prevention. We highlighted strategies that addressed the challenges of bullying prevention and showcased strategies involving education-based interventions, inclusive policy advocacy, and collaborative school-community partnerships to foster long-term systemic change and create a campus that embraces diversity and inclusion.

From our experience, we have learned that educating students alone is not sufficient in achieving comprehensive sexuality education. It is equally crucial to educate school teachers, social workers, and youth workers. By providing training and knowledge to these key stakeholders, we can create a more supportive and inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ individuals. This includes understanding how to respond when a student comes out and giving positive responses to LGBTQ+ students, ensuring they can thrive in a gender-friendly school setting.
