Building a More Gender-equal City for Young Women

Last month, Teen’s Key was invited to host a sharing session on supporting young women for students from The Department of Social Work of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The session focused on crisis intervention and support services for young women in the sex industry, utilizing real case studies for in-depth discussion, with the aim of broadening the new generation’s understanding of the community.

We were truly inspired by the students’ passion for gender-related issues. We have always envisioned walking alongside such dedicated, emerging social workers in a future city that is more equal and inclusive. Hence, the session placed special emphasis on a crucial element of practical frontline work— the importance of always maintaining a keen sense of gender awareness. Whether supporting young mothers, teen girls involved in the sex industry, or pregnant adolescents, frontline workers must understand their needs through a gender-sensitive lens. It is crucial to create safe, non-judgmental spaces for them and often to accompany them through long-term support lasting years.

We understand that developing gender sensitivity is a continuous process, not an overnight task. Therefore, Teen’s Key will continue to deepen our work on sex and gender issues, fostering greater awareness and understanding of vulnerable young women among the public.
