Breaking Barriers：Making Conversations Work in Schools

Is it really possible to discuss gender and sexuality issues in schools?

Indeed, educators have the ability to create a safe space where students can discuss these issues openly! We are honored to be invited as one of the sharing organizations for the “讓性別走進校園，教育工作者培訓及工具示範課程” at Onebookhalf Gender Space. We brought along our boardgame, “Run for Consent,” to facilitate discussions on how to effectively implement comprehensive sex education in schools.

In this workshop, we hope our frontline experience can inspire the participants. We aim to help everyone understand the sexuality education topics that currently resonate with teenagers and explore how to initiate conversations about sexuality, gender, and relationships in a natural way.

On that day, we were thrilled to see both teachers and social workers among the participants. One attendee shared that a student once opened up about an LGBTQ+ experience. The attendee noticed that when teachers respond appropriately, students feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings. This is absolutely true! As long as everyone maintains a respectful and accepting attitude, creates a trustworthy environment, and takes the opportunity to listen to students’ feelings and respond, educators can absolutely be a strong support for their students.
